A downloadable game for Windows

A roguelite deckbuilder where high school volleyball meets a retro fighting game.

Draft a deck of digs, sets, and spikes, then play them out turn by turn to win the rally. Stack the right power values and elements together and you’ll trigger elemental combos, detonations, Limit Breaks, and more.

Descend a branching map of matches, each one tougher than the last, and fight your way to the boss. Lose and you start over, but keep your powered up deck, new fighters you’ve recruited, and relics you’ve earned along the way.

Between matches, fuse duplicate cards in the Forge to make them stronger, participate in training minigames for rewards, go shopping for rare cards, and even go to the moves with your team to watch their increasingly bizarre anime story unfold.

Featuring:

  • Fast paced card battles
  • 16 bit volleyball action
  • Explosive combo effects
  • Procedurally generated branching paths
  • Original retro soundtrack

Install instructions

No installation needed. Download the file, unzip it if it comes as a .zip, and double-click SpikeForce.exe to play. The first time you run it, Windows may show a blue "Windows protected your PC" screen. That is just because the build is not code-signed yet (signing costs money I would rather put into the game right now). Click More info, then Run anyway. If your antivirus flags it, that is a common false positive with small indie executables. Runs on Windows. Controller supported.

I dislike the use of AI, but it does look nice overall, but if an AI wrote the code, drew the graphics, and composed the sounds, what was actually done by you? The description also reads (heavily) like an AI wrote it.

Almost looks like it wasn't even play tested because during gameplay the PLAY button is low enough that when I hover over to click it the cards do their zoom animation, blocking the play button.

Luckily I can just hit enter to play my cards, unluckily my random team I fought was a legendary fire/ice duo that kept debuffing my scores.

Hey Superjoe, really valid comments all around. I know the use of genAI is controversial in creative works, hopefully it didn’t take away from the fun but I respect anyone for whom it’s a dealbreaker. And like a fool, I’ve been playing/testing on keyboard and controller mainly and that’s my bad for leaving in that frustrating hover glitch. I’ll post an updated demo shortly.

I also wanted to share an enormous genuinely heartfelt thank you. It really means a lot that you took time to download it, play it, and come back and share your thoughts.
